Audyssey Platinum

Built-in

Denon was the very first A/V manufacturer to embrace Audyssey's advanced DSP audio algorithms, and the AVR-X5200W is equipped with the latest Audyssey Platinum suite of DSP technologies. Audyssey MultEQ XT32 automatic room acoustic measurement and correction system provides higher precision digital filters for the satellite and subwoofers compared to the base MultEQ and MultEQ XT systems, and also allows for measurement at up to 8 locations in the room. The AVR-X5200W is also Audyssey Pro Installer compatible, for superior in-room acoustic measurement and correction capabilities, with up to 32 measurement points.

Audyssey Dynamic Volume smoothes out annoying jumps in volume (such as TV commercials), letting you listen at lower levels and still enjoy clear dialog, music and sound effects. Audyssey Dynamic EQ provides precision tonal tailoring for full range clarity at any listening level.

Audyssey Low Frequency Containment uses advanced psychoacoustic algorithms to deliver a full range tonal balance, including deep bass, but without disturbing close-by neighbors or family members in other rooms, and features a multi-step adjustment that lets you dial in the amount of containment to your preference.

Audyssey Sub EQ HT provides individual DSP tailoring of each subwoofer in a dual subwoofer setup, for deeper bass with improved definition, compared to a single subwoofer configuration.

Audyssey Dynamic Surround Expansion dramatically broadens the surround soundstage for the ultimate surround sound experience with the option of connecting front height and/or front wide speakers.

External Control

and IP Control Capabilities

As part of Denon's IN•Command series of custom integration friendly A/V components, the AVR-X5200W is equipped with a range of features that provide enhanced control capabilities and compatibility with 3rd party and custom integration solutions.

For remote control compatibility with other components in your home theater system, the AVR-X5200W features IR (infrared) remote control input and output ports on the rear panel.

The AVR-X5200W can also be set up and operated by a home computer on the network via IP control, either via wired LAN connection or via Wi-Fi wireless connection.

There's also an RS-232C serial port on the rear panel that allows connection to a whole-home control system, and the AVR-X5200W features Control4 SDDP (Simple Device Detection Protocol) certification for quick and easy integration with Control4 home automation equipment.

Dual 12 Volt trigger outputs are provided, which lets you connect the AVR-X5200W to a drop-down front projection screen, motorized drapes, or other component or system that can be remotely activated via 12 Volt trigger signals.

Convenient

USB Port

On the front panel, there's a convenient USB port that lets you stream tunes from your iPod, iPod touch, or iPad and charge it at the same time. You can also use the USB port to stream tracks from a USB memory device or NAS, and the AVR-X5200W features DSD (2.8 MHz) and wideband PCM (lossless FLAC or PCM file types, up to 24 bit/192 kHz) decoding for the ultimate high resolution music experience.

Advanced ISFccc Video

Calibration Controls

Certified by the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF), the AVR-X5200W includes a full suite of advanced ISFccc video calibration controls that allows a video calibration technician to optimize picture quality with any TV or projector.

New Tablet Apps

In addition to the available smart device apps, we've created a new Denon Remote app specifically for tablet devices, and it's available for iPads, Android tablets as well as the Kindle Fire.

4K Ultra HD 60 Hz Pass-through;

4:4:4 Pure Color Sub-sampling Pass-through

For the ultimate video experience, the AVR-X5200W features an advanced video section with 8 HDMI inputs including 1 conveniently located on the front panel, and all rear HDMI inputs are equipped with Ultra HD 4K full 60 Hz frame-rate pass-through and 4K Ultra HD 60 Hz frame-rate upscaling. The AVR-X5200W also features Pure Color 4:4:4 color sub-sampling pass-through, another feature of the latest HDMI specification.

There are 3 HDMI outputs (2 for the main room, and 1 for the second zone) so you can send different content to 2 different rooms.

Dolby Atmos

Surround Decoding

Introduced in movie theaters in 2012, Dolby Atmos has quickly become the gold standard in motion picture surround sound. Dolby Atmos theaters are equipped with banks of surround speakers along the side and back walls, and additional banks of speakers overhead. Dolby Atmos is an object-based scalable system, so no matter the loudspeaker configuration, the decoder scales and routes content to the various speakers for the ultimate movie surround sound experience.

You can enjoy Dolby Atmos in your home theater, thanks to the AVR-X5200W Dolby Atmos decoding system, which features provision for 1 or 2 pairs of overhead speakers, in addition to the main front speakers and surround sound speakers. Or, you can choose to go with Dolby Atmos compatible speakers, which feature additional upward firing drivers that use the room's ceiling reflectivity to provide overhead sound imaging.

Auro 3D

Auro-3D® is the next generation three-dimensional audio standard. It provides a realistic sound experience unlike anything before. By fully immersing the listener in a cocoon of life-like sound, Auro-3D® creates the sensation of actually ‘being there’. Thanks to a unique ‘Height’ channel configuration, recorded acoustic reflections are reproduced by these speakers and are heard naturally due to the fact that sounds originate from around as well as above the listener.

Once upgraded with the Auro®-Codec Decoder, the Denon AVR-X7200W and AVR-X5200W are capable of decoding the original Auro-3D® mix and playing back an Auro 10.1 channel configuration (including “Voice of God” channel). The AVR-X4100W can process an Auro 9.1 channel configuration for full height layer capability.

The Auro-3D Upgrade can be purchased for £149.

Click here for upgrade information.

11 Color Coded

4-Way Speaker Terminals

The high quality speaker terminals feature multi-way connectors to handle various types of cable terminations, and they're all color coded for correct hookup the very first time. Color coded speaker labels are also included to ensure quick and correct hookup with no hassle. There's also the option of connecting 2 pairs of main (L/R) speakers - chose one pair for stereo music listening, and the other pair for movie surround sound.

Powerful 9 Channel

Discrete Amplifier with Eco Mode

For optimum sound quality across all channels, the AVR-X5200W features a sophisticated power amplifier section with all 9 channels configured identically employing discrete high current capable power output devices. Each channel is rated at 140 watts (8 ohms, 20Hz~20kHz, .05%THD), and all channels are able to safely drive lower impedance speakers (down to 4 ohms). Our new advanced Eco amplifier mode adjusts power consumption according to signal level, and there's an on-screen Eco Mode display that lets you see the power consumption reduction in real time.

Dual Subwoofer

Outputs

With a single subwoofer setup, room acoustics and the subwoofer's location may not deliver optimum deep bass response. Instead, because of room resonances, deep bass quality may be uneven due to room interaction.

With the AVR-X5200W's dual subwoofer outputs, you can connect two subwoofers, and place them in different parts of the room, and enjoy smoother and more accurate deep bass response.

Easy To Setup,

Easy To Use

The AVR-X5200W comes with a Quick Setup guide, and has an intuitive on-screen Setup Assistant that will have your system fully configured with a minimum of fuss and bother. You can even control the setup via your PC's web browser, or use our available iOS and Android Denon Remote apps with your favorite smart device.

What's in the Box

AVR-X5200W, setup microphone with attached cable, stand for setup mic, remote control, 2 AA batteries, FM antenna, AM loop antenna, 2 RF antennas for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi, detachable AC cord, CD-ROM Owner's Manual, Quick Setup Guide, safety instructions, notes on radio sheet, color coded speaker label tags, warranty information sheet

Powerful DSP

Audio Processing

In order to properly handle the multitude of advanced digital audio decoding and processing functions, the AVR-X5200W features an sophisticated DSP audio processing system that incorporates no less than 4 powerful high speed fourth generation SHARC DSP processors, which together have a combined continuous processing capability of 10 GFLOPS (10 billion floating point numerical computations per second).

Denon was the very first audio company to introduce components featuring SHARC DSP processors (in fact, we were the original co-development partner and launch customer), and Denon has more experience with more models powered with SHARC processors than any other audio manufacturer.

Multi-room Enjoyment

You can easily configure the AVR-X5200W for multi-room listening by hooking up a second pair of speakers to two of the amp channels, which lets you enjoy 5.1 channel surround sound in the main room, while others enjoy stereo sound from a different source in another room in the home.

2 of the 3 HDMI outputs also let you enjoy a stereo TV program in one room, while others enjoy a surround sound movie from a different source in the main room.

For even more second room options, the AVR-X5200W features stereo variable level second zone pre-amp outputs, for connection to a separate stereo power amp and speakers.

Denon Link HD;

Denon AL24+ Processing

When connected to a compatible Denon disc player, our exclusive Denon Link HD system provides a dedicated pathway for the critical timing data to eliminate distortion caused by jitter errors in the main data stream.

Denon's exclusive AL24+ audio processing provides ultra high resolution digital audio filtering and precision tailoring of the main (L/R) audio channels, to deliver shimmering detail in the highs, along with smooth natural midrange and a broad soundstage with improved imaging.

Easy To Use

Quick Select Functions

There are 4 Quick Select function buttons on the front panel that let you choose your favorite sources quickly, and the AVR-X5200W will remember your preferred sound settings for each source. There are also 4 Quick Select function buttons on the ergonomic remote control.

AV Forums - "Highly Recommended - 9/10"

"As we would expect from Denon, the X5200 proved to be a very capable surround sound performer. When listening to 5.1-channel soundtracks the receiver did a fantastic job of delivering an extremely dynamic sound field. The surrounds were lively and energetic, whilst sounds and effects were seamlessly panned around the room. The front soundstage was open and detailed and dialogue remained clear and focused on the centre channel. Music was well defined and the entire sound field remained tonally balanced, helping to envelope the listener with clarity and precision.

When we moved onto Dolby Atmos soundtracks the results were as impressive as we hoped, with the additional overhead speakers really opening up the immersive nature of the audio. The dimensional effects of the object-based mix meant that pinpointing specific sounds became much easier and the sense of spacial awareness was remarkable…..Whilst there might only be a limited amount of Atmos-encoded material available at the moment, you can give any 5.1- or 7.1-channel mix the 'Atmos' treatment using the Dolby Surround setting…This proved to be highly effective, giving all our favourite surround soundtracks a new lease of multi-dimensional life.

…In fact it handled two-channel music extremely well…

Is it worth buying?

…the design, features, flexibility and performance of the Denon AVR-X5200W, make it a strong contender for anyone looking to buy a new receiver. The level of features and overall specifications are second to none and the ease of setup and well designed controls and menu systems make it a very attractive proposition.

The performance was excellent, regardless of which audio format you choose, and the Dolby Atmos decoding was incredibly immersive. If you want support for Auro-3D the choices are more limited and, in terms of mass market receivers, only Denon and Marantz currently provide that option. Yes you'll have to pay an extra fee for the privilege but it seems a small price for cutting-edge technology and the X5200 doesn't disappoint in terms of the quality of its Auro-3D performance.

…if you're looking for a genuinely impressive AV receiver that delivers in all the important areas, then look no further than the Denon AVR-X5200W."

  • 7 channel equal power output

7 channel equal power is a feature used in Denon Amplifiers with the means of connecting 7 speakers independantly which do not require separate power amps connected via the pre-outs. This feature compliments Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES sound modes. Allowing you to connect the second 'surround back' speaker, which compliments the surround back speaker initially there for 6.1, straight off the main amplifier without adding a power amplifier to support 7.1 surround formats. The amplifier has built in separate internal amplifiers to power each channel independently, this system ensures that the 6 major channels Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround right, Surround Back left and Surround Back right. Thus allowing you to enjoy the same high power output, giving a balanced and truly high-impact surround-sound environment.

  • Dolby Digital-Decoder

Dolby Digital is the multi-channel digital signal format developed by Dolby Laboratories. Dolby Digital consists of up to "5.1" channels - front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right and an additional channel exclusively reserved for additional deep bass sound effects (the Low Frequency Effects - LFE - channel, also called the ".1" channel, containing bass frequencies of up to 120Hz).

Unlike the analog Dolby Pro Logic format, Dolby Digital's main channels can all contain full range sound information, from the lowest bass, up to the highest frequencies - 22kHz. The signals within each channel are distinct from the others, allowing pinpoint sound imaging and Dolby Digital offers tremendous dynamic range from the most powerful sound effects to the quietest, softest sounds, free from noise and distortion.

  • Dolby Pro Logic IIx

Dolby Pro Logic IIx is an extension of Dolby Pro Logic II technology. This highly sophisticated algorithm processes native stereo and 5.1 channel content to produce 6.1 or 7.1 output channels. And Dolby Pro Logic IIx is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Music: The music mode creates a rich and enveloping surround ambience delivered to the subwoofer, optimizing the visceral of planned rear effects. This mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources.

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Cinema: The Cinema mode is optimized for movies or programs with Dolby Surround soundtracks. This mode is also appropriate for use with video game.

  • Dolby TrueHD

Dolby TrueHD is a completely loss-free Audio-Codec for high resolution audio for up to 8 channels Supporting 24-Bit and sampling rates up to 192 kHz. It requires specific Dolby HD decoders. Since the resulting signal is bit-to-bit to the master you can achieve the ultimate in audio quality.

  • HDMI-output (HDCP)

HDMI (high definition multimedia interface), a new connector that bases itself on the DVI-HDCP model. HDMI supports uncompressed high definition video plus multi-channel audio in a single cable using a smaller connector that eliminates the need for multiple cables in home entertainment systems, simplifying installation and eliminating cross technology confusion. It transmits uncompressed digital video so that the picture maintains a high quality of color depth, brightness and contrast. It also supports Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) based on the AV.link protocol so it can be controlled with a universal remote that is used with multiple HDMI sources such as Denon DVD players. HDMI supports bi-directional coommunciation between devices, allowing DVD players to communicate with Plasma's, LCD screens and Projectors, as long as they are HDCP compatible.
The HDMI connection supports every uncompressed standard, enhanced and high definition video format ranging from 480I to 480P, 720P, 1080I and 1080P as well as existing PAL formats. It also has the bandwidth to support compressed audio formats such as Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS EX and uncompressed formats (PCM audio) up to eight channels, up to 192kHz, up to 24-bits.

High Definition Multimedia Interface(HDMI) and High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) is a copyright protection system installed on most Plasmas, LCD's and projectors consisting of a HDMI or DVI input. All Denon DVD players require HDCP compliant displays to be fully compatible. It prohibits the copying of copyrighted material, like onto a VCR or DVD-recorder.

  • Radio Data System

Radio Data System for VHF/FM broadcasting.

The developers aimed at making radio receivers very user-friendly. Listeners should be able to see the programme service name (PS) on an eight character alpha-numerical display and the transmitter frequency information, as displayed on non-RDS radios, is then only used in the background by an RDS radio. The tuner is able to choose the transmitter frequency, among a number of alternatives, that gives the best quality reception.

Travel information with RDS is currently possible using the Travel Programme (TP) and Travel Announcement (TA) flags.

Once a radio is tuned to a programme service broadcast within a network, using the RDS feature Enhanced Other Networks (EON), additional data about other programmes from the same broadcaster will be received. This enables the listener, according to their choice, to have the radio operating in an automatic switch-mode for travel information or a preferred Programme Type (PTY, e.g. News).

Another feature of RDS is accurate Clock-Time, displaying the time/date when selected.

  • DTS-HD

DTS-HD (High Definition) is a progression of DTS for high performance audio supporting upto 8 channels with a resolution of 24-Bit and sampling of upto 192 kHz. The differences between the formats is as follows:

    DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
This format works like DTS however it uses a more effective compression algorithm, offering greater compression, the result is an audio signal almost bit for bit to the master while requiring a smaller amount of data.

    DTS-HD Master Audio
This format is completely lossless with only minimal compression. The resulting audio signal is bit-for-bit to the master giving you the optimum in audio quality.

A/V-Receivers with this logo can decode both formats, BD- or HD-DVD-Players with this logo can either decode or output the DTS-HD signal via HDMI.
