Features - AVR-X2200W

AVR-X2200W 7.2 Channel Full 4K Ultra HD Network A/V Receiver with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Overview

Packed with the latest audio and video technologies, the AVR-X2200W delivers incredibly immersive surround sound, built on an extensive sound tuning and plenty of amp power. With Dolby Atmos, you’ll experience the same revolutionary 3D surround sound found in premium movie theaters. And, via a future firmware update, the AVR-X2200W will be able to decode DTS:X soundtracks, which also deliver an immersive 3-dimensional soundspace. Full wireless connectivity is provided by both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with dual antennas that help ensure robust signal transmission and reception. Stream your favourite music through AirPlay, Spotify Connect or local network storage drives, and enjoy easy control via the Denon 2015 AVR Remote iOS and Android apps. The AVR-X2200W features an advanced video processing system which provides for 4K Ultra HD full rate, and it can upscale analogue and digital SD and HD video to 4K UHD. The AVR-X2200W is also HDCP 2.2 compliant, a requirement for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content.

Dolby Atmos built-in; DTS:X ready

For many years, movie surround soundtracks have been channel-based. Revolutionary Dolby Atmos surround sound technology dispenses with channel-based coding in favour of more advanced object-based coding, giving the sound designer the ability to precisely place sounds anywhere in the 3-dimensional space. Now, you can enjoy this same award-winning technology at home with the AVR-X2200W, which features the ability to connect a 5.1 surround sound speaker system and 2 additional overhead speakers or 2 additional Dolby Atmos-certified up-firing speakers for the ultimate home theater experience. Along with Dolby Atmos decoding and Dolby Surround Upmixing, the AVR-X2200W also features Dolby TrueHD lossless decoding and other Dolby Digital technologies.

The latest immersive surround sound system, DTS:X, features object-based audio coding that lets the sound designer place sonic elements anywhere in the 3D acoustic soundspace, and provides for overhead speakers to deliver a stunning surround sound experience. DTS:X and DTS Neural:X Upmixer will be enabled through a future online firmware update. For more info, please visit www.denon.com/dtsx.

Advanced Quad-Core 32-bit DSP Processor

Featuring an advanced quad-core 32-bit DSP processor, the AVR-X2200W easily handles multi-thread processing tasks, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding, Audyssey room acoustic correction, bass management and DSP surround simulation. The processor features tremendous processing power, with 4 300-MHz DSP cores that deliver over 1 billion computations per second.

Full Specification 4K Ultra HD Compatibility

In addition to handling 4K Ultra HD 3840x2160 resolution, the AVR-X2200W also features HDR (High Dynamic Range) and Wide Color Gamut compatibility, key components of the BT.2020 4K Ultra HD video specification.

Built-in Bluetooth & Wi-Fi

Featuring Bluetooth & Wi-Fi wireless streaming connectivity, the AVR-X2200W is equipped with an advanced dual antenna RF transceiver system for robust and error-free streaming, even in congested RF environments. Connect to the internet through your home Wi-Fi network (or with a hard-wired connection via the RJ-45 Ethernet LAN port) and enjoy your favourite tracks from streaming music services such as Spotify Connect. You can also choose from thousands of internet radio stations around the world, and enjoy music from virtually every genre.

With AirPlay, you can enjoy listing to your favourite tracks wirelessly from your favourite iOS device, including the iPod touch, iPhone and iPad, and the AVR-X2200W is also DLNA 1.5 certified for compatibility with your home PC or Mac.

The Denon 2015 AVR Remote App lets you easily control the AVR-X2200W with your favourite portable device and it's available for both iOS and Android devices.

Latest HDMI Connectivity; HDCP 2.2 Compatible; ISF-Certified

Equipped with 8 HDMI inputs, including 1 conveniently located on the front panel, along with dual HDMI outputs, the AVR-X2200W incorporates an advanced video processor that features support for 4K Ultra HD 60 Hz full rate video, 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling and 21:9 video pass-through, along with support for 3D content.

The AVR-X2200W also features HDCP 2.2 compatibility, a requirement for 4K Ultra HD copy-protected content. And, the video processor can also upscale SD and HD video to 4K UHD.

Certified by the Imaging Science Foundation, the AVR-X2200W features a full suite of video calibration controls (for use by an ISF technician), along with ISF Day and ISF Night video modes.

Powerful 7 Channel Discrete Amplifier with Eco Mode

Featuring high current discrete power output devices on all channels, the AVR-X2200W is rated at 150 watts per channel. For compatibility with the widest range of loudspeaker models, the AVR-X2200W is also equipped with low impedance drive capability, to provide operational stability with speakers rated at 4 ohms.

The Eco mode adjusts the power amplifier's output according to the volume level to reduce power consumption and the on-screen Eco meter lets you see the power consumption reduction in real time.

Audyssey Silver

As the first A/V receiver manufacturer to embrace Audyssey's advanced DSP audio algorithms, Denon has introduced the most Audyssey-equipped products, and the AVR-X2200W features the Audyssey Silver suite of DSP functions, which includes MultEQ XT, Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume.

Audyssey MultEQ XT automatic room acoustic measurement and correction system matches your speakers to your room's acoustics, for the smoothest, most natural tonal balance. MultEQ XT provides greater filter precision for the main and satellite speakers, with 8 times the resolution compared to the base MultEQ system, at up to 8 measurement locations.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ uses advanced psychoacoustic algorithms to continually adjust tonal balance so that the sound you hear is full range, even at lower volume levels, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume smoothes out annoying volume jumps, especially with loud commercials.

Easy To Setup, Easy To Use

With our exclusive Setup Assistant along with the Quick Start Guide, you can connect and configure your home theater system quickly and easily. The Setup Assistant features clear on-screen graphics and text that quickly and easily guide you through the setup process, optimizing critical system settings for the best possible sound quality.

Multi-Source/Multi-room

Enjoy stereo sound from one source in one room, and 5.1 surround sound from another source in the main room. Simply connect a pair of stereo speakers to the multi-room amplified outputs. Or, connect a separate stereo amp and speakers to the Zone 2 pre-outs, and enjoy full 7 channel surround sound in the main room.

Dual Subwoofer Outputs

Featuring dual subwoofer outputs, the AVR-X2200W lets you connect two smaller subwoofers instead of a single larger sub, and enjoy the benefits of response averaging by having two subs in different locations in the room. With dual subwoofers, deep bass is smoother and more detailed, minimizing the peaks and dips that often result with a single subwoofer setup.

Colour Coded 4-Way Speaker Terminals

The high quality speaker terminals feature multi-way connection capability to handle a wide variety of speaker cable termination types. They're also colour coded for correct hookup the very first time, and colour coded speaker cable labels are included.

Convenient USB Port

The convenient USB port on the front panel lets you stream tunes directly from your iPod touch, iPhone and iPad and charge your device at the same time.

You can also connect a USB drive or NAS device and listen to MP3 and WAV files, and the AVR-X2200W features high resolution audio file compatibility, including DSD (2.8 MHz) and FLAC lossless decoding.

Easy To Use Quick Select Functions

There are 4 Quick Select function buttons on the front panel and on the ergonomic remote control, that let you get to your favourite sources quickly. And, the Quick Select function remembers your preferred audio settings for each one.

External Control and IP Control Capabilities

As a custom integration friendly A/V component, the AVR-X2200W is equipped with a range of features that provide enhanced control capabilities and compatibility with 3rd party and custom integration solutions.

The AVR-X2200W can also be set up and operated by a home computer on the network via IP control, either via wired LAN connection or via Wi-Fi wireless connection.

The AVR-X2200W also features Control4 SDDP (Simple Device Detection Protocol) certification for quick and easy integration with Control4 home automation equipment.

Denon HEOS Link IP Control

Denon's acclaimed HEOS whole home audio system features advanced multi-room, multi-source audio streaming, and the AVR-X2200W features IP control capability with the HEOS Link, so you can control the receiver with the HEOS app.

What Hi Fi - 5 Stars

"An articulate, detailed amp with stacks of functionality and future proofing"

"….a receiver that pushes the boundaries of what we've come to expect at this price."

"…this amp is as big on performance as it is on specs, proving that Denon is once again back on its A game."

Performance

"The midrange shows great insight, picking out plenty of fine detail in every tyre screech and gear change, while delivering an engaging fluidity to dynamics that makes it as precise as it is articulate"

"It's a really well balanced presentation. Up top, the treble is crisp and refined while the low end packs just enough rumble for he big action scenes."

"It would appear Denon has spent some time on the X2200's way with music…There's a much greater handling of rhythm and timing, nd dynamically it's full of expression and fluidity."

Verdict

"Denon has thrown everything at this receiver and with fantastic results It's been quick to pick up where it fell down last year, and added in some excellent functionality that leaves no stone unturned in 2015.

For £500, the Denon X2200 will deliver an exciting, well-considered home cinema experience no matter what setup you decide, while future-proofing your system for some time in the process. If that's not tempting, we don't know what is."

Technology - AVR-X2200W

  • 7 channel equal power output

7 channel equal power is a feature used in Denon Amplifiers with the means of connecting 7 speakers independantly which do not require separate power amps connected via the pre-outs. This feature compliments Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES sound modes. Allowing you to connect the second 'surround back' speaker, which compliments the surround back speaker initially there for 6.1, straight off the main amplifier without adding a power amplifier to support 7.1 surround formats. The amplifier has built in separate internal amplifiers to power each channel independently, this system ensures that the 6 major channels Front Left, Front Right, Center, Surround Left, Surround right, Surround Back left and Surround Back right. Thus allowing you to enjoy the same high power output, giving a balanced and truly high-impact surround-sound environment.

  • Audyssey MultEQ-XT with Dynamic EQ
  • Auto Setup and Auto Room EQ with Audyssey MultEQ XT

The Audyssey MultEQ XT allows room correction and calibration technology. During the Auto Set-Up mode, MultEQ XT automatically determines how many loudspeakers are connected, whether they are connected in phase and whether they are satellites or subwoofers. When it has processed this it then analyzes and calibrates speaker level, size, and distance. In addition, MultEQ XT detects the proper crossover point and determines correct frequency response for up to eight listener positions simultaneously. This is the first system to optimize and compensate the system for more than one listening location at the same time giving nearly every listener in the room a "sweet spot" no matter where they're sitting. Denon's implementation of MultEQ XT uses multiple Texas Instruments' Aureus DSP processors with high-end digital-to-analog converters. Both the Room EQ and Auto Set-Up features can be disabled if required.

  • Cinema Equalizer

The sound from movie sources recorded in Dolby Digital, DTS, or other formats emphasizes high-frequency range due to a theater’s front speakers being placed behind the movie screen. If this sound is reproduced in the home theater without correction, the high-frequency range is too strong. Denon amplifiers feature a Cinema Equalizer to correct these high-frequency components so that the sound is clearer and easier to listen to. (For Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS surround modes.)

  • Dolby Digital-Decoder

Dolby Digital is the multi-channel digital signal format developed by Dolby Laboratories. Dolby Digital consists of up to "5.1" channels - front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right and an additional channel exclusively reserved for additional deep bass sound effects (the Low Frequency Effects - LFE - channel, also called the ".1" channel, containing bass frequencies of up to 120Hz).

Unlike the analog Dolby Pro Logic format, Dolby Digital's main channels can all contain full range sound information, from the lowest bass, up to the highest frequencies - 22kHz. The signals within each channel are distinct from the others, allowing pinpoint sound imaging and Dolby Digital offers tremendous dynamic range from the most powerful sound effects to the quietest, softest sounds, free from noise and distortion.

  • Dolby Pro Logic IIx

Dolby Pro Logic IIx is an extension of Dolby Pro Logic II technology. This highly sophisticated algorithm processes native stereo and 5.1 channel content to produce 6.1 or 7.1 output channels. And Dolby Pro Logic IIx is not available in the system without surround back speaker(s).

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Music: The music mode creates a rich and enveloping surround ambience delivered to the subwoofer, optimizing the visceral of planned rear effects. This mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources.

Dolby Pro Logic IIx Cinema: The Cinema mode is optimized for movies or programs with Dolby Surround soundtracks. This mode is also appropriate for use with video game.

  • Dolby TrueHD

Dolby TrueHD is a completely loss-free Audio-Codec for high resolution audio for up to 8 channels Supporting 24-Bit and sampling rates up to 192 kHz. It requires specific Dolby HD decoders. Since the resulting signal is bit-to-bit to the master you can achieve the ultimate in audio quality.

  • HDMI-output (HDCP)

HDMI (high definition multimedia interface), a new connector that bases itself on the DVI-HDCP model. HDMI supports uncompressed high definition video plus multi-channel audio in a single cable using a smaller connector that eliminates the need for multiple cables in home entertainment systems, simplifying installation and eliminating cross technology confusion. It transmits uncompressed digital video so that the picture maintains a high quality of color depth, brightness and contrast. It also supports Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) based on the AV.link protocol so it can be controlled with a universal remote that is used with multiple HDMI sources such as Denon DVD players. HDMI supports bi-directional coommunciation between devices, allowing DVD players to communicate with Plasma's, LCD screens and Projectors, as long as they are HDCP compatible.
The HDMI connection supports every uncompressed standard, enhanced and high definition video format ranging from 480I to 480P, 720P, 1080I and 1080P as well as existing PAL formats. It also has the bandwidth to support compressed audio formats such as Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital EX, DTS, DTS EX and uncompressed formats (PCM audio) up to eight channels, up to 192kHz, up to 24-bits.

High Definition Multimedia Interface(HDMI) and High Definition Content Protection (HDCP) is a copyright protection system installed on most Plasmas, LCD's and projectors consisting of a HDMI or DVI input. All Denon DVD players require HDCP compliant displays to be fully compatible. It prohibits the copying of copyrighted material, like onto a VCR or DVD-recorder.

  • Radio Data System

Radio Data System for VHF/FM broadcasting.

The developers aimed at making radio receivers very user-friendly. Listeners should be able to see the programme service name (PS) on an eight character alpha-numerical display and the transmitter frequency information, as displayed on non-RDS radios, is then only used in the background by an RDS radio. The tuner is able to choose the transmitter frequency, among a number of alternatives, that gives the best quality reception.

Travel information with RDS is currently possible using the Travel Programme (TP) and Travel Announcement (TA) flags.

Once a radio is tuned to a programme service broadcast within a network, using the RDS feature Enhanced Other Networks (EON), additional data about other programmes from the same broadcaster will be received. This enables the listener, according to their choice, to have the radio operating in an automatic switch-mode for travel information or a preferred Programme Type (PTY, e.g. News).

Another feature of RDS is accurate Clock-Time, displaying the time/date when selected.

  • DTS-HD

DTS-HD (High Definition) is a progression of DTS for high performance audio supporting upto 8 channels with a resolution of 24-Bit and sampling of upto 192 kHz. The differences between the formats is as follows:

    DTS-HD High Resolution Audio
This format works like DTS however it uses a more effective compression algorithm, offering greater compression, the result is an audio signal almost bit for bit to the master while requiring a smaller amount of data.

    DTS-HD Master Audio
This format is completely lossless with only minimal compression. The resulting audio signal is bit-for-bit to the master giving you the optimum in audio quality.

A/V-Receivers with this logo can decode both formats, BD- or HD-DVD-Players with this logo can either decode or output the DTS-HD signal via HDMI.
